As the name suggests, most of the architecture in this neighbourhood is Gotic. If your up for architecture the Cathedral of Santa Eulàlia (though it has been wrapped in scaffolding for some time now), Esglèsia del Pi, the Royal Palace in the Plaça del Rei and the (Town Hall; 1 Plaça de Sant Jaume), Generalitat (Catalan Regional Government; 4 Plaça de Sant Jaume). The less well preserved though just as authentic is the recently excavated Synagogue which is considered to be the oldest in Spain (5 Carrer de Marlet www.calldebarcelona.org). There are also some Roman traces in the vicinity, such as pieces of the defense wall and three lone columns that once formed part of a temple which are now surrounded by shops, glass and alcoholics. You can find the full story of Barcelona’s birth beneath her shaded medieval streets at the Museu d’Història de la Ciutat, where excavated Roman foundations remain exposed for everyone to see (1 Plaça del Rei www.museuhistoria.bcn.es). Hope this helps some what.
